Capturing you two in your element is MY biggest thrill. You bring the romance.
I'll bring the energy
Ridley Creek State Park spans 2,606 acres of Delaware County woodlands, gardens, and historic grounds about 16 miles west of Philadelphia. Standout engagement-photo locations include the Hunting Hill Mansion grounds, the formal gardens, the stone staircases, and the surrounding wooded paths. A photography permit is required, and couples should apply at least two weeks in advance through the park office.
Marina and Mason’s engagement session at Ridley Creek State Park was one of those days where everything lined up perfectly! We had cloud cover the entire session, which you might be inclined to panic about if you’re looking for that rich golden sunlight, but at a location like Ridley Creek it actually worked in our favor! There are a lot of areas that can be tricky to shoot in without serious posing due to how open some areas can be, but with cloud cover, none of that matters and you can truly shoot anywhere!
The two of them were genuinely awesome to work with. they had some easy energy and we were laughing most of the time. They were the kind of couple where you can already feel what their wedding day is going to look like just from how the session went!
If you’ve ever been to Longwood Gardens and loved how curated the grounds feel, with the manicured flower beds, formal layouts, everything clearly having been planned and tended to over decades, well Ridley Creek scratches that same itch. The formal gardens around Hunting Hill Mansion along with the stone staircases, symmetrical landscaping, and historic architecture has that same English-country-estate feeling that Longwood has.
I used to love shooting at Longwood. They’ve made it harder to do real sessions there now as the current rules require zone-restricted permits and chaperones, which kind of kills the spontaneity that documentary-style photography demands. So finding a location with that same garden-estate atmosphere but without the crowds, zones, or chaperones requires a bit of a small miracle. Ridley Creek delivers it though, so it’s safe to say we’ve found another hidden gem to add to our options!
Take a look at some of my favorites from the session below, and check out the FAQ at the bottom if you’re considering having a session here!

Ridley Creek State Park is a 2,606-acre park in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, located about 16 miles west of Philadelphia at 1023 Sycamore Mills Road, Media. The park’s draw is its variety — formal gardens, historic stone staircases, the English-country-style Hunting Hill Mansion, and wooded trails all within walking distance of one another.
Yes. Ridley Creek State Park requires a photography permit for any professional engagement session. Couples can apply for either a single-use permit for one date or an annual permit for multiple visits. Apply at least two weeks in advance through the park office, as without a permit you can be asked to leave the grounds.
The 90 minutes before sunset typically produce the best light, particularly around the formal gardens and the open lawns near Hunting Hill Mansion. Overcast days are also surprisingly favorable with diffused light that makes the heavily-landscaped grounds more usable to their fullest extent since you’re not fighting harsh contrast from bright sun.
The most photographed spots are the formal gardens around Hunting Hill Mansion, the stone staircases, the mansion’s exterior architecture, and the wooded paths leading away from the manicured grounds. Each area has a distinctly different feel, and most sessions use a mix of all four within a single permit visit.
Look for a photographer whose engagement work feels like the wedding work you actually want – the same energy and moments displayed throughout the galleries. Ridley Creek specifically rewards photographers who already know the grounds, hold the required permit, and can adapt to changing weather. Many couples I photograph for engagement sessions go on to book me for their wedding.
