Julia and Ryan wanted exactly what I want out of a wedding day. Help when it’s needed, guidance when it’s useful, and beyond that, candids. As many as possible! As much documentary storytelling as they could get their hands on.

That’s the part that gets me energized, because it’s what I’m most passionate about. I don’t want to pose your entire day. I don’t want the day to be about how the photos look. The photos should look like exactly what the day was. Julia and Ryan asked for that from the start, and everything else about the day cooperated.

Getting Ready at Farm Road Estate: Natural Light on Both Sides

The getting-ready rooms and areas for both sides are incredible. Natural light everywhere, interesting architecture in every direction, and the crowns around the property. Spoiled for choice and not a single bad spot to shoot to be found.

That matters more than couples expect. When both suites hold light on their own, nobody is getting dragged to a hallway window or waiting on a light stand. The morning stays yours and I stay out of the way.

The willow tree made for perfect bridal portraits, groom portraits, and the wedding party first look. It’s one of those features that does the work for you — the shape of it frames people without me having to arrange anybody.

Portrait blocks stay short here because they can. We get what we need and get back to the day.

A Pondside Ceremony and the Reception Tent at Farm Road Estate

The pondside ceremony was gorgeous, and the sun was in a perfect spot. High enough that it wasn’t backlit, soft enough that it gave them a perfect halo, casting an orange glow around everything and draping the whole ceremony in warm sunlight.

Cocktail hour had its own patio plus multiple rooms you could drift between. It honestly felt like its own private party, completely separate from the reception. Four real distinct spaces across the day: getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception.

Then everything moved into the tent, which looked like a ballroom in its own right. Skylights and sidelights around the tent walls meant I didn’t need my lights for the first half of the dance floor. After the sun went down, the party genuinely kicked off. The energy in those photos is through the roof. And if you look closely enough, you’ll find a group drinking a beer out of a shoe.

The staff was on top of everything all day. Farm Road Estate is one of the best venues I’ve ever worked, and I can’t wait to be back.
