Capturing you two in your element is MY biggest thrill. You bring the romance.
I'll bring the energy
The ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks is a Bethlehem, Pennsylvania wedding venue built on the former Bethlehem Steel site in Northampton County, Lehigh Valley. It hosts weddings of 50 to 250 guests, and couples can now marry on the elevated Hoover Mason Trestle beneath the blast furnaces, with Wind Creek Bethlehem’s hotel on the same campus for getting ready.
Patrick and David are one of those couples who just have it all figured out when it comes to how they want to spend their wedding day. The two of them were the definition of presence from start to finish.
They got ready together in the same hotel suite at Wind Creek Bethlehem, surrounded by several of their closest friends. No separate rooms, no waiting around apart. Just the people they love, enjoying each other’s company and preparing for the day ahead.
My wife and I did the same thing when we eloped in Iceland. It was me, my wife, and both of our parents in the same Airbnb. If you’re comfortable with it, I much prefer this style of getting ready, because it creates an atmosphere with so much more intimacy. Think about it: you’re spending those hours with your family and friends, making memories together instead of sitting by yourself.
It’s not for everybody. But if that sounds like something you’d enjoy, and you’d rather your pictures reflect organic, real moments, this is the way to do it.
That energy didn’t stop once everyone was dressed. It carried through the entire day.
We kept portrait time nice and short to leave room for what really matters. We got some cool portraits, knocked out the family photos and wedding party photos, and then got out there and started documenting reality together.
The ceremony was a cool one. ArtsQuest has started letting couples get married on the catwalk up by the SteelStacks, so Patrick and David said their vows high above the ground, right in front of the towering Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces. It made for such an awesome space.
A quick word of advice: I wouldn’t recommend a trestle ceremony in full summer, since it can get a little hot up there. In the shoulder months, though, it’s absolutely perfect.
And don’t worry about sun positioning. We have that covered. With the direction of the sun, it’s not really in a terrible spot. If it’s overcast, none of that matters. If it’s bright and sunny, you’ll see that reflected in the photos, and I think theirs came out great. See for yourself in the gallery below.
All in all, the day was fantastic, and we had such a wonderful time celebrating together. The dance floor photos from this one are some of my favorites to date.
And do yourself a favor: check out Dia Doce in the vendor list below. I’ve tasted a literal ton of desserts over the 400+ weddings I’ve shot, and these were hands down the best cupcakes I’ve ever had in my life. At the very least, go check them out.
Thank you, Patrick, for having such an on-point sweet tooth!
Answers based on multiple weddings photographed on-site at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.
The ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks is in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on the former Bethlehem Steel plant site in Northampton County. It hosts weddings of 50 to 250 guests against the historic blast furnaces, and Wind Creek Bethlehem’s hotel sits on the same campus for getting ready and guest stays.
Spring and fall shoulder months are the sweet spot for a Hoover Mason Trestle ceremony at SteelStacks. The trestle is elevated and open-air, so full summer can get hot for you and your guests. In the shoulder season it’s absolutely perfect, and the towering blast furnaces handle the rest.
Not really. The sun isn’t in a terrible spot for a Hoover Mason Trestle ceremony at SteelStacks. On overcast days it doesn’t matter at all. On bright, sunny days you’ll see that brightness reflected in your photos, and handling it is our job, so you can focus on the ceremony.
Wind Creek Bethlehem is the natural choice, since its hotel sits on the same SteelStacks campus as the ArtsQuest Center. A shared suite works especially well if you’re open to getting ready together with close friends. It keeps the morning relaxed, intimate, and full of real moments worth photographing.
Look for someone who knows the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks: how the trestle light behaves, how the day flows from Wind Creek to the ceremony, and how to keep portraits short so you’re not stuck posing. My approach is documentary-first, and couples often book both their engagement session and wedding coverage with me.
This day would have never come together the way it did for these two if it weren’t for the awesome team behind all the details! Here is a list of the vendors who took part of the day, and a link to their website if you want to go check them out!
