I’m going to be real: most people see rain in the forecast and immediately panic. But for this Promise Ridge elopement, we did the exact opposite. They decided to say “F the rules” and lean into the weather. They still walked down to the infinity deck in the drizzle and had their ceremony right in front of the living wall. It was a testament to why you choose to elope in the first place – to be real, not perfect. If it rains, who cares? Embrace it.
Why choosing to “Dance in the Rain” Makes for Better Photos
As a photographer, I am NOT afraid of water. My gear is weather-sealed, and honestly, the “mood” of a misty day in Stroudsburg is unbeatable. If you’re willing to get a little damp, you get photos that feel way more raw and authentic than a staged, sunny session. We always have the pavilion or the getting ready rooms to retreat to, but there is something incredibly romantic about just staying true to yourselves and letting the day happen exactly as it is.
3 Tips for Your Rainy (but Rad) Promise Ridge Elopement
Don’t Let the Drizzle Stop the Ceremony
The infinity deck at Promise Ridge is iconic for a reason, and a little rain doesn’t change that. If you’re okay with a bit of mist, the living wall looks incredibly vibrant when it’s wet, and the fog in the valley creates a “Twilight” vibe that is pure magic. We can always dry off later—go get married where you planned!
Lean into the “Documentary” Indoor Moments
If the downpour gets too heavy, the pavilion and the indoor spaces at Promise Ridge are a photographer’s dream. Instead of trying to “pose” our way out of the rain, let’s just document the real stuff – chilling on the couch, having a drink, and just being present. These are the photos that actually tell the story of your day.
Trust the Gear (and the Photographer)
You don’t have to worry about the tech side of things. I’m fully equipped to shoot in the rain, and I love the creative challenge it brings. Whether we’re dancing in the rain or using subtle lighting to make the mist look cinematic, my goal is to make sure you look like a rockstar regardless of what the weather is doing.
