Capturing you two in your element is MY biggest thrill. You bring the romance.
I'll bring the energy
2020 – it’s been quite the ride. As a community we’ve endured more than what I’d wager most of us would have ever said we could. It is so easy to focus on the negative pieces surrounding this year, but negativity has no home in this post. Regardless of the circumstances and no matter the environment – humanity is so beautiful, and love is so damn spectacular.
I didn’t notice a difference in the amount of emotion shown in any of these photographs. Some of these ballrooms may look more like backyards, but make no mistake there was more energy in Mom and Dad’s front lawn than I’ve seen in the biggest ballrooms I’ve ever been in.
When people ask me what the most frustrating part of this job is, I always tell them it’s the culling – the act of sorting through thousands upon thousands of photos taken on a wedding day and narrowing them down. It’s a very tedious task that seems like it’s never going to end. Even still, despite the negative connotation I put on the act itself I can’t help but find myself grinning the entire time I go through each and every photograph. (I’ve been called out on this quite recently, I swear I’m not making this up).
In fact, I couldn’t help but cry while gathering the images for this post you’re reading right now. It’s relatively easy to think of photography as a routine I’d be used to by now from the outside, but I’m not just documenting others’ memories; every single photograph in this gallery is also a memory of my own. Each picture here is someone else’s story, but since I’m involved in such a unique way, it becomes a not so small part of my story as well.
I felt it was important to include more than just my normal work. During the first lockdown of the pandemic, I found myself longing to shoot anything at all. I found so many new things to experiment with and it only felt right to include those adventures in here too. After all, they’re a part of the story.
I’ve gotten the chance to interact with some of the most amazing people this year. I’ve met new people unexpectedly and had friendships come out of places I would never have expected, some of which have been the greatest thing to happen to me in the longest time. This is their story too. These people are so dear to me, and the moments I’ve shared with every single one of them will be cherished forever.
As a collective whole, this gallery appears to be a combination of scenes from a vast array of adventures. From my perspective, it’s the picture book of my own adventure with all of you.
Here’s to 2021.
So much love,
Marshall Scott
