Capturing you two in your element is MY biggest thrill. You bring the romance.
I'll bring the energy
What happens when a worldwide pandemic forces couples to change their wedding plans? You get these two! Steven and Briana had originally envisioned a large, traditional wedding, but given the state of the world at the time, they realized they didn’t want to wait to start their lives together. They literally could not wait.
We ended up photographing this intimate elopement at the Allentown Rose Gardens on just a day’s notice. It definitely helped that we’re close friends with Roxy Williams of Makeup by Roxy – Briana is her sister and helped coordinate our team being there to capture this sweet, spontaneous day. After the ceremony, they headed home to celebrate with their closest family, and we loved being the ones to document such a pivot toward what matters most.
The Allentown Rose Gardens is an absolute staple for Lehigh Valley photographers, but it shines specifically for micro-weddings and elopements. Located at 3000 Parkway Blvd, Allentown, PA 18104, this park offers a level of organic color and variety that is hard to find elsewhere in such a concentrated area.
What makes this spot a “go-to” is the sheer number of backdrops available within a short walk. You have the multi-colored rose bushes on wooden frames, a small bridge over a stream, weeping willow trees, and several gazebos. It’s a very convenient location for anyone living in Allentown or Bethlehem because it involves zero travel between the ceremony and portrait locations, so basically everything you need is right there in the gardens.
If you are planning a ceremony here, keep it small. To protect the integrity of the gardens, the city typically limits ceremonies to 25 people or fewer. It’s the perfect spot for an elopement or a micro-wedding where the focus is on the connection rather than a massive production.
While the park is beautiful year-round, peak bloom for the roses is usually in June and July. If you’re looking for that high-saturation, floral-heavy look, aim for these months. Even if you miss the peak, the weeping willows and stone paths offer a classic “storybook” aesthetic throughout the spring and fall.
One thing to know about the Rose Gardens is that the city does not take reservations for ceremonies, so it’s all first-come, first-served. My tip is to plan your elopement for a weekday (Monday through Thursday) to avoid the weekend crowds. This ensures we have our pick of the best “pockets” of light near the stream or the gazebos without having to wait on other parties.
The Allentown Rose Gardens is a quintessential pick for intimate, nature-focused celebrations, which is why it has a dedicated spot in my regional research. I’ve spent years documenting weddings across the local landscape and compiled everything I’ve learned into one massive resource.
