Jacobsburg Park Elopement Photos // Nazareth, PA
Jacobsburg State Park is one of the most beautiful local treasures we have in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This not so hidden park is filled with beautiful locations, both for photographs and to simply soak in the atmosphere! It’s truly no wonder that Cathy and Khris came from the city streets of Philadelphia just to elope here; they took one look at how gorgeous the entire space was and knew this was the perfect place for them to have their intimate moments.
When Cathy had inquired about her elopement and described her vision, I knew immediately that it was right up my alley. Her original plan was to have her ceremony at around 2:00PM, but having walked these grounds so many times I knew at this time of year, the light was going to be nothing shy of incredible at 5PM! With a quick confirmation and adjustment with her celebrant Julie, I knew we were going to be in for an incredible day.
Jacobsburg has a main state park area across from the environmental education center on Belfast Road. This main hike within the park is a loop, and although there is so much beauty to be found here as well, the real magic happens in the hidden parking lot next to the park. It’s only a 30 second walk down the street from the entrance of the main park, and when you walk in you’ll immediately know why this location is the real hidden gem. 
What used to be used for outdoor church ceremonies now has abandoned wooden pews laid out within the grass. A water house further down by the stream provides a rustic and dramatic background, with branching vines climbing up the entire west facing walls. This is where our two lovebirds decided to have their short ceremony. To say there are infinite ways to shoot here and get creative is an understatement! 
If you’re wondering what makes this location so special and what it does to the photos, it’s 100% in the trees. The trees stand tall and proud, with layers and layers of forestry as a backdrop, but the center of this space is wide open. When the sun sets behind the trees, you’ll find that the golden light pours through the trees, and the open skies give a soft light throughout the park. This makes for some of the most incredible, fairytale-esque light. In the right angles, you can go from dramatic and cinematic, to romantic and emotional with ease. 
Take a walk through this enchanting pathway off the main park area, and you end up next to this gorgeous stream, with roots twisting and turning through the ground; I swear every time I come here I feel as though I’m in a different state. Hard to believe this is right in my own backyard. I’ve come here so many times and even still it feels just as brand new each time. 
The backdrops were the most perfect and stunning match for Cathy and Khris. When I say this couple had energy, I mean they had ENERGY. They had a love for one another that you could feel just being around them. I admire this type of love, and it’s why I love what I do. Having the honor of documenting their passion and romantic love story is something I will never take for granted, and am truly thankful to have been a part of.
I can truly say that if you’re wishing to have a beautiful and romantic elopement, you don’t need to go somewhere drastic like a black sand beach in Iceland or the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. Oftentimes the nature right within Pennsylvania is taken for granted, and there are so many places to have an incredible and beautiful elopement. Jacobsburg is my personal favorite choice for local elopements, it’s no surprise people travel from surrounding cities just to get a glimpse of the nature we have.
